This picture book is about a boy who finds a penguin at his door and decides he will help the little penguin get home. After he returns the penguin to the South Pole, he realizes the lonely penguin was looking for a friend. Eventually, they are happily reunited.

The illustrations are a combination of light ink outline and soft watercolors. The little boy has a Picasso-like face and two sticks for legs. The penguin has two basic expressions. Body language is used to convey emotion as the facial illustrations do not portray much.

My 2 1/2-year-old granddaughter enjoyed the story and was happy the penguin and the boy became friends. She liked how the little boy did everything on his own and showed kindness and courage. A sweet story about an unusual friendship.
