Donaldson, Julia. Numbers. Illustrated by Axle Scheffler. Book Review.

If your child is familiar with the works of Donaldson and Scheffler, they might enjoy this picture board book. Otherwise, it really has little to offer.

The first spread has a large number one on the left and a picture of a Gruffalo with the words “one Gruffalo”. The second has a squirrel jumping over another one. The third has three butterflies with the band’s face. The fourth has four toadstools. The fifth as five birds. None of the pictures are particularly interesting or informative.

I tried several times to share this with my book-loving granddaughter, but couldn’t even hold her interest for five pages. It seems like it is part of a series generated to make more money off of a brand name. There are far better counting books out there.
