Archer, Mandy. Fire Truck is Flashing. Illustrated by Martha Lightfoot. Book Review.

Although this book features foxes as firefighters, it gives a realistic explanation of how a fire truck is used to fight a fire. It begins with the crew sleeping. They respond to an alarm and rescue a woman from a burning apartment building. It ends with an explanation of the nine major parts of the fire truck. The illustrations are clear and bright but I think the foxes were overly simplistic and indistinguishable from each other.

Except for one frown shown by the fire chief, every fox wears a frozen smile throughout the entire episode. I would like to have seen more emotional expression especially when rescuing the trapped woman. This book would be a useful introduction to children interested in fire trucks.
