Lanier, Stephanie. Good night Mermaid. Book Review.

This is an extremely simple story of a mermaid playing and then getting a kiss good night from her father. I can’t see it holding the interest of anyone over four years old.

The book is written in rhyming couplets but the meter is off on numerous pages. Illustrations are simple but cute. The same picture of the mermaid is used over and over.

One positive thing is that the mermaid is Caucasian but her father is dark skinned. It’s nice to see families of mixed-race pictured in books, even those that take place under the sea.

This seems like a book a parent would’ve written for their child not something that was ready to be published.
